ACROSS THE SANDHILLS | spring 2008
![]() |
Across the Sandhills is the quarterly newsletter of Sustainable Sandhills. Our goal is to recognize and promote sustainable action by local organizations, volunteer groups and citizens of the Sandhills Region |
As opposed to our current system where Sustainable Sandhills uses 6 region-wide resource teams to reach 8 different counties as shown above, we would like to reach out to each county individually by creating one Community ACTION team for each of our 8 member counties. The new planning method would allow us to simplify our outreach, amplify our opportunities for change throughout the entire region and, most importantly, would encourage a dialog with each county.
Who’s part of a Community Action Team? Everyone! Residents, Elected Officials, Local Professionals and anyone who is interested in making their community a more sustainable place to live or work! When and where will our meetings be? Team meetings will be held regularly in the evening in the same county participants live and work in. What are the benefits? All issues from one county will be addressed by a single Team and the Team will provide many opportunities for a partnership between community employees and community residents. How will this help to create regional connections and a regional identity? Sustainable Sandhills plans to host a quarterly or semi-annual “Summit” of all of the Community Action Teams. This will allow each team time to share their current projects and gather feedback from their peers throughout the region. Above all of these benefits, is the dialog that we will be able to establish with each Community Action Team. By both Sustainable Sandhills and the participants of the Team bringing information and ideas to the table, we will create a very strong partnership for sustainable changes. Sustainable Sandhills will begin this partnership by offering several programs to each Community Action Team. |
