City of Fayetteville Recycling Task Force

The Fayetteville City Council heard the message from City residents, and approved a new curbside recycling program to begin on July 1, 2008.  Fayetteville Mayor Tony Chavonne and the City Council gave Sustainable Sandhills the task of forming a Citizen's Task Force made up of local elected officials, businessmen and women, educators, media representatives and concerned citizens.  Advisors included members from NC Department of Environment and Natural Resources, PWC Board of Directors, the City Solid Waste Department, and Sustainable Ft. Bragg.  The Sustainable Sandhills Executive Director and Materials Team Leader acted as facilitators and research support for the Task Force.  The Task Force met weekly for three months and presented a report and recommendtions to the City Council in June of 2007. Sustainable Sandhills continues to work with the City of Fayetteville on an educational outreach program for citizens prior to the recycling start date.
