Sustainable Tip

REUSE AND RECYCLE YOUR PLASTIC SHOPPING BAGS!

If you grocery shop once a week, in five years you’ll have kept about 250 to 1,000 grocery bags out of our landfills.  When one ton of plastic bags is reused or recycled, the energy equivalent of 11 barrels of oil is saved!

who we are

Sustainable Sandhills is a nonprofit organization with a focus in the eight county region surrounding Fort Bragg. This region contains the entire Sandhills Longleaf Pine Ecosystem, one of the 21 most endangered ecosystems in the nation.

We are committed to raising awareness of not only our environment, but also our economy and quality of life through programs ranging from recycling to green business to eco-tourism.

Our leadership in these programs engages both governmental and non-governmental organizations, the military, and most importantly, our citizens to unite our grassroots effort for a more Sustainable Sandhills.

Moore County residents gathered together on September 16th to learn about and discuss ways to take action for a better future.  As a result of that meeting, residents looked at several issues they would like to have addressed.  One of those is Recycling, and that is the topic of discussion for the next meeting on November 13th. The Community Action Team meeting will be held at 6:30pm in the Clement Dining Room at the Dempsey Student Center on the campus of Sandhills Community College (3395 Airport Road, Pinehurst).
