Our programs engage both governmental and non-governmental organizations, the military, and most importantly, the residents and businesses of the region in a grassroots effort for a more Sustainable Sandhills.
E-BLASTs BI-WEEKLY!
Our bi-weekly e-Blasts document the sustainable success stories from the communities and region we serve. There are so many individuals, businesses, nonprofit groups and local governments working on great projects and programs - we'll do our best to keep up with the news from across the Sandhills. community action teams (cat's)
Residents gathered in Moore, Cumberland, Lee and Harnett Counties to learn about and discuss ways to take action for a more sustainable future. As a result of those meetings, residents looked at several issues they would like to address and projects were identified by each Community Action Team. To find out more about these projects and Community Action Teams, click on Member Communities and then click on the county you are interested in. We plan to kick off CATs in the rest of the region during 2009-2010.
Our Green Business Program was launched in Cumberland County in April of 2008. This Program was initiated to assist businesses in reducing the costs of energy and water use and solid waste disposal, and to promote the certified businesses' achievements to the public. Thus far, 20 businesses have become certified in Cumberland County during 2008-2009. Another 20 businesses are working towards certification in Cumberland. Moore County has its first Certified Green Business, with several working toward certification, and Ft. Bragg is currently working on its Certified Green Directorate Program. Businesses in Harnett and Lee Counties are also in the pipeline. The Green Business program is now available to businesses in all eight counties in the region. Read More>>
