We are so grateful for our volunteers! Below is a description of each of our available volunteer opportunities, with contact information. Our list of events where volunteers are needed is also available on Volunteer Match.
Community Garden/Compost Volunteers at Seth’s Wish Open House
Seth’s Wish is having an open house at their new location at 204 S. Reilly Rd. on Saturday, April 30. Volunteers are needed from 10:15am-2pm to assist with sorting canned goods and toiletries, planting the garden, building a compost bin, leading the kid zone, prepping food distribution bags, waste management, parking, and the raffle. Sustainable Sandhills strives to make our events as eco-friendly as possible, and volunteers help make this happen! We are seeking 1-3 volunteers to serve as “waste station staffers” at Sustainable Sandhills farmers markets, to help ensure that attendees recycle and compost waste correctly. Our farmers markets take place on the 1st and 3rd Friday of the month from 5-8pm and the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month from 10am-2pm. To participate in this opportunity, please contact Trinity Vetere at email@example.com.
Community Cleanup Volunteers
One of our greatest need for volunteers is at our monthly litter cleanups in Cumberland County and Moore County. In 2021, roughly 900 volunteers in Cumberland County picked up about 8 tons of trash, and the litter index in the City of Fayetteville decreased from 2.7 to 2.2. To find out more about how you can make an impact by volunteering at upcoming cleanups, click here.
Carbon Bank Volunteers
On Saturday, April 2, we are looking for volunteers to help count and map our carbon bank and do a random survey so we can calculate the amount of carbon sequestered. To inquire about this activity, please email Renée Jones at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Air Quality Ambassador Volunteers
Are you an active voice in your local community, or interested in becoming one? Are you passionate about our environment and health? Do you want to learn more about how you can improve your local air quality–and help others do so, too? If yes, then the AQ Ambassador Program might be the perfect endeavor for you! We’re looking for enthusiastic, passionate individuals who are eager to learn and make a difference in their local community. The AQ Ambassador Program initiative is designed to help citizens pave the way to cleaner air in our very own neighborhoods. Ambassadors will attend Air Quality Workshops where you’ll learn:
- Air Quality Issues
- Simple ways to improve indoor + outdoor air quality
- Personal vehicles and air pollution – can EVs really improve our air quality?
- Community Outreach
AQ Ambassadors will be provided with the support they need to help build and develop localized solutions to air quality in their community. They will also be provided with a digital toolkit containing all the essentials needed to advocate for better air quality. To inquire about this volunteer position, please email Kia Jones at email@example.com.
